DSi XL

Natural White DSi XL is a return of one of the classic colours for this console series. It appears white because all parts of the light spectrum are reflected equally off the white DSi XL. The colour is perceived by us when all 3 types of cone cell in our eyes are stimulated in equal amounts.

White substances you may be familiar with include milk, snow and sugar. Clouds are also often white although rain clouds are darker giving them a grey appearance.

White is traditionally associated with purity, heaven, peace, cleanliness, and winter (due to the appearance of snow in many parts of the world at this time of year).

The colour is sometimes practical for hygiene reasons since dirt is usually easier to spot against a light background. This can also cause a problem since dirt and grease can sometimes be too easy to spot. For the Natural White DSI XL however it is unlikely you will spot smear marks as the console has a matte finish rather than the glossy coat of the DS Lite.

The name Nintendo have give to this variation of the console “Natural White DSi XL” seems unusual since white is no more a natural colour of the device than any other colour. The machine cannot be found in nature. While the name is likely to be a reference to the similarity between the colour of this console and the colour often found in nature, this seems also seems unusual because the description of “natural” could be applied to any shade of colour since every shade and colour appears in nature. However white does appear in nature more than most colours (if not all colours) in stars.
